A year ago I shared with you my experience with lazy man doughnuts. This last week, we hosted a fun Ladies night out where we all shared our favorite tips and tricks and treats. I shared with my friends how to make these delicious doughnuts. So now I thought I would share a complete tutorial on how to achieve the easiest doughnuts, for when you are tired, or you just need something quick and easy to appease the children. Not to mention they taste great, and they don’t take much time at all.

Shaping your doughnuts

To begin making these super easy doughnuts, you simply need a can of fridge biscuits. You don’t necessarily need a brand name, but I found the brand name does rise a little better when cooked. But it is up to you.

To keep them simple, including the clean up, I simply put out a roll of wax paper and place the biscuits onto the paper. You can then use a small parring knife and cut a circle from the center of the biscuit to create a doughnut shape.

But I’m all about making things extra simple. So if you happen to have a Soda pop bottle handy, simply take the lid and use that instead. Place it into the center of the biscuit and push down. It will easily cut the center hole for you. And it will be a perfect shape as well. Better than I can get with my knife anyway. It now looks professional! No one will guess they are homemade doughnuts, nor even that you are making them from biscuits!

How to cook homemade doughnuts

As for cooking the doughnuts, you can either pan fry them or fry them in a deep fryer. I’ve tried both, and quite honestly I got the best results from a deep fryer. I think particularly it is because I was able to better regular the temperature of the deep fryer so it was a steady temperature at the right temperature; where when I was frying on the stove top, it wasn’t. But if you don’t have a deep fryer, you can still fry them in oil on the stove. Just make sure you have enough oil in the pan and that the oil is hot enough, but not too hot. It’s really tricky to get it just right. I wish I had an easy way to help you get the temperature perfect; but sadly I don’t. I am lazy and I use my deep fryer.

Simply place the doughnuts into the fryer pan, then lower it into the preheated oil. You don’t want to put the doughnuts in until the oil is the optimal temperature; they won’t cook correctly. They should begin to float and start to turn golden. Once they are to the golden level you prefer, use a pair of long cooking tongs to flip them over so the other side may cook. Once both sides are done, remove from the oil and let cool on paper towels.

Enjoy your easy homemade doughnuts

Once your doughnuts have cooled slightly you may now embellish them as you wish. Our favorite is by adding on a chocolate glaze. When my kids are helping me they also add on sprinkles and even sometimes powdered sugar on top of the glaze. You can also add jams or jellies, or a regular glaze or just powdered sugar on it’s own. But the one thing you must be sure to do is enjoy them!

For me the part I love the most are the little doughnut holes! In Fact most of the people at our ladies night out party loved the doughnut holes the best. Thankfully my kids really love the doughnut parts, so in the end it all is eaten up before the day is over.

So can these doughnuts be saved and eaten the next day and still taste great? Honestly, I haven’t a clue. We’ve never had any last long enough to even give it a try. But if you can resist finishing them off long enough to try it out, let me know what you find.

With everything we have tried with these doughnuts, the one thing I’m dying to try next time is injecting them with the raspberry filling from our raspberry filled gourmet cupcakes recipe. Then dust them with powdered sugar. Oh, I think I need to try this soon!

So do you think you would make these easy doughnuts?
