I love the whole process of making homemade dumplings in air fryer. I know if you’re thinkings there’s a lot of hustle but in the end, it’s worth it. No other dumplings are as good as homemade ones. I’ve tried making my Asian dumpling recipe several times before I finally decided to post it on my blog. What is dumpling dough made of?

Normally the dough is made from all-purpose flour, wheat flour, potato starch, etc. You choose any flour while making the dumpling dough according to your liking. For making dumpling dough from scratch you only need three ingredients flour, salt, and water.

How to prepare dough for dumplings?

Mostly dumpling dough just needs three ingredients flour, salt, and water. The dumpling dough needs a reasonably soft dough that can be rolled out easily but not too soft that is sticky. Here’s the approximate ratio you can take while making the dough. However, you might need some trial and error to find the perfect ratio.

Ratio:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup water

Note: Please be aware that the measurement might differ. So, while adding water start by pouring a small amount of water to make sure the dough doesn’t get too sticky.

How to make colorful dumplings without using food color?

I’ve made three pieces of dough in different colors. And I haven’t used any artificial food coloring. You just need some colorful fresh vegetables.

White Dough: It’s the regular dough made with all-purpose flour, salt, and water. While making white dough take a mixing bowl to add flour and salt mix them to combine and pour some water and mix them until they form a dough.

Green Dough: The green dough comes from spinach. To extract the color from spinach take boiling water and a bunch of spinach, then blend in a food processor. You can use the green juice extracted from spinach and mix it with the flour and your green dough is ready.

Red Dough: Apply the same method to beetroot. However, you’ll not get a thin juice from the beetroot. You’ll need to use semi-liquid beetroot puree and mix it with the flour to get a strong red color.

Note: After the dough is kneaded place them in a well-oiled bowl, cover them, and let it rest for an hour or so. Till then we’ll start preparing for the dumpling filling.

How can you make homemade dumpling wrappers?

Here comes the most interesting part: the time-consuming part while making homemade dumplings. If your trying to make homemade dumpling wrappers for the first time it might take a quite long time. But when you get used to it you can make them quite easily and fast.

Do not get disheartened if your dumpling wrappers are not perfectly round in shape. Here’s how you make homemade dumpling wrappers:

  1. Sprinkle some flour on the working station and place the dough. Knead them for a while and make a roop with the dough.
  2. Cut it into equal sections and sprinkle the dough with a generous amount of flour.

  1. Take a piece of dough and cover the rest of them to avoid drying out.
  2. Take a piece of dough, and press them into a small disc with your palm.
  3. With a rolling pin flatten it into a thin disc and your wrapper is ready.

How to make tasty dumpling filling at your home?

Dumpling filling plays an essential role in making delicious dumplings. You can choose any mince according to your liking such as pork, chicken, or beef. I’ve chosen the chicken mince for this recipe. In order to make the filling juicy and tasty make sure that you follow these tips.

  • While choosing the readymade mince try to choose which has fat in it. Or you can choose the fatty part such as chicken thigh then mince it yourself with a food processor.
  • If you don’t want to add animal fat then adding cooking oil is the best alternative. I love adding some vegetable oil to my dumpling filling. However, you can add any oil of your liking.

Making homemade dumplings are fascinating. All the process you go through to acquire that delicious dumpling is worth it.

  • 3 spring onion (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 medium onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup cabbage (finely chopped)
  • 3 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 chicken stock cube

Instructions for homemade dumplings in air fryer:

  1. Take a large mixing bowl to add all the ingredients and mix them together until well combined.
  1. Let the dumpling filling marinate for an hour.
  2. Take a dumpling wrapper on the working surface, take a spoon of filling, and place it in the center of the wrapper. Lightly moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingers. Fold the wrapper over the filling and press the edges to seal. Repeat the process with the remaining.

  2. Spray/brush a generous amount of oil to prevent the dumplings from sticking to the bottom of the basket. Place the dumpling in a single layer and brush some oil over the dumplings so it doesn’t get dry after cooking.

  1. Cook the chicken dumplings at 195C/380F for 10 minutes or until the dumplings are golden and cooked through. Toss or flip the dumplings halfway through the cooking process.

It’s a tomato and Schwan-based sauce with a tangy and spicy flavor. It is a perfect combination for your crispy, juicy and delicious homemade dumplings. By the way, dumplings are also called Mo Mo in these countries.

Ingredients for dumpling sauce:

  • 6-7 medium-size tomatoes
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 3-4 dry red chili
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon Schwan powder
  • A chunk of fresh coriander (roughly chopped)
  • ⅓ cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions for dumpling sauce:

  1. Thoroughly wash the tomatoes and cut them into four quarters.
  2. Take a saucepan to add tomatoes, garlic cloves, red chili, oil, salt, and water. Cook them on medium heat until there is no water left in the pan and the tomatoes are soft.

  1. Transfer the tomatoes into the blender and blend them until they turn into a thick puree.
  2. Now put the coriander and Schwan powder and blend them until the coriander gets blended.
  3. Your homemade Asian dumpling sauce is ready to serve.
