Although it’s still Spring, Summer is coming. So let’s get ready with this protein Greek yogurt cookie dough. It is so quick and easy to make that it will become your new favorite daily treat!

Ingredients and substitutes

You only need six simple ingredients and one minute to make yourself a bowl of this delicious protein yogurt cookie dough. And if something is still missing, make sure that you read through the recipe details for all substitutes!

Here’s all you need to make this protein yogurt cookie dough.

  • Greek yogurt. For this recipe I like using low fat plain Greek yogurt but you can replace it with full fat Greek yogurt. As an alternative to Greek yogurt, make this protein cookie dough with Skyr (also vegan), quark or coconut yogurt. Just make sure that the yogurt you are using has a firm consistency.
  • Protein powder.Make this yogurt cookie dough with your favorite protein powder –but I recommend whey protein powder (unflavored, vanilla or peanut butter flavor). If you do not have protein powder, replace it with almond flour or skip entirely (do not use milk if skipping protein powder).
  • Peanut butter. This recipe uses 100% natural peanut butter. You can replace it with almond butter, cashew butter or PB2 for a lower calorie Greek yogurt cookie dough.
  • Sweetener of choice. This recipe usessugar-freefiber syrup but you can replace with your favorite sweetener –maple syrup, agave, honey, erythritol, coconut or brown sugar.
  • Milk of choice.Dairy or nondairy milk will both work for this protein cookie dough recipe.
  • Chocolate chips.Use your favorite chocolate chips, best if dark and free from added sugars.

How to make cookie dough with yogurt

Making this recipe is so quick and simple that will require you no more than one minute.

First, add to a bowl Greek yogurt, protein powder, peanut butter and sweetener of choice to taste. Mix cookie dough yogurt, stirring in milk of choice to reach the desired consistency(the quantity of milk depends on the yogurt consistency and the protein powder used, if any).Fold in chocolate chips.

You can directly serve your Greek yogurt cookie dough or keep it refrigerated until eating.

Dairy-free cookie dough with yogurt

You want to have this protein cookie dough but don’t eat dairy? No problem, making this recipe vegan is very simple. All you should do is substitute Greek yogurt with a plant based alternative of your choice. Although any works, I strongly recommend choosing a yogurt that is firm and thick. If it’s runny and liquid, instead, the cookie dough won’t actually feel like cookie dough. My top picks are soy Greek yogurt, soy Skyr and a thick coconut yogurt.

Low calorie Greek yogurt dip

Compared to the original, this recipe is already lower in calories. Mind-blowingly lower in calories. But still, more can be done. Hereare three ways how you can make a lighter version of this Greek yogurt cookie dough recipe.

  • Use nonfat Greek yogurt.
  • Replace peanut butter with powdered peanut butter (mixed with water until it gets smooth and creamy).
  • Prepare your protein dip with calorie-free sweeteners such as erythritol, stevia or sugar-free syrups.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Should I use full-fat or nonfat Greek yogurt?

For fewer calories, this recipe uses nonfat Greek yogurt. But feel free to select the one you prefer: 0%, 2% or full fat yogurt.

How can I replace Greek yogurt?

You can replace Greek yogurt with any firm yogurt of your choice, also vegan. Great alternatives are Skyr, quark or high protein yogurt.

Can I use powdered peanut butter?

If you want to cut some extra calories, powdered peanut butter is great choice. But before stirring it into the yogurt, make sure you mix the powder with some water until it’s creamy.
Side effect of cutting calories: your protein dip won’t taste as good.

Which protein powder is better for yogurt dips?

After testing it out a couple of times, I can tell you that whey is the best. Differently from vegan protein powder or casein, whey mixes very well and does not make a grainy cookie dough dip.
In terms of flavor instead, I recommend vanilla, chocolate chip, cookie dough or peanut butter. Also unflavored is great!

Can you leave out the PB? What are the macro changes if left out?

      Hey dear Rebecca,

thank you for your comment. I do not recommend skipping peanut butter, the result won't be the same (it is going to be just yogurt with protein powder). Still, if you skip peanut butter your cookie dough will have about 120 calories less.

      Kind regards,
      Matteo
